Editorial for an extreme sports magazine
Role: Editorial Designer & Art Director
Tools: Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Procreate
Deliverables: Editorial Layout Design, Photo Editing, Illustrations
A fresh direction for an extreme sports magazine focusing on real authentic stories about real people. The magazine is bringing back its authenticity to appeal to a younger audience.
This issue is focused on women in extreme sports, who are defying stereotypes and inspiring others to join in.
Visual Direction
I established a direction that felt visceral and real, drawing from zine culture, protest posters, and underground print aesthetics.
Neon doodles were hand-drawn in Procreate to echo the rawness of the content and express individuality and movement
Imagery was edited using high contrast, added grain, and color overlays to enhance texture and detail, emphasizing sweat, concrete, and shadows to support the magazine’s gritty, bold aesthetic
Typography mixed bold sans-serifs with distressed textures, paired with clean body text for legibility
Tear detail signals disruption and edge
The vibrant pink draws the eye and reinforces a youthful, rebellious tone
This visual language supported the magazine’s mission to reclaim space for authenticity, especially for underrepresented voices in the extreme sports world.
